Low back pain can be the result of stress, overuse or injury. In the case of injury, you should consult with your doctor and/or chiropractor before beginning any course of treatment or exercise for low back pain.
If the pain in your lower back is caused by stress and/or overuse, it can be managed well through the use of simple stretching, stress management, relaxation techniques and regular exercise. Here are a few tips to help you get your low back pain under control.
If you are under stress, be sure to add stress management techniques such as meditation and deep breathing to your life. Take a few minutes at the beginning and end of each day to sit quietly, contemplate your day and organize your thoughts. Breathe deeply and completely relax. This will help reduce stress and pain throughout your body.
When you take this relaxing time, and throughout the day, elevate your feet and legs. You can do this by lying on your back with your feet and legs straight up and supported by the wall. This is a simple yoga pose that is extremely beneficial. It relaxes the lower back and improves blood circulation to that area. Additionally, it helps to rest and rejuvenate the feet and legs and improve overall blood circulation. Doing this for 15-20 minutes a day can really help alleviate lower back pain.
Be sure to get about 15-20 minutes of light to moderate exercise daily in the form of walking, swimming, cycling, dancing or some other enjoyable activity. Participating in enjoyable exercise benefits body, mind and spirit and can help relieve lower back pain.
Be sure that your mattress is comfortable, moderately firm and lump free. It may help to sleep on your back with your knees elevated to relieve pressure on the lower back. While you are doing this you could try some physiotherapy reading to try and reduce the pain coming from your back.
Wear comfortable, stable, practical shoes that provide good support to your feet. If you work in a seated position, place your feet on a small box or stool to help relieve pressure on your lower back.
Rest, relaxation and simple solutions can help you reduce stress and relax the lower back. Follow the tips presented here for better back health.
